ObjectiveEliminate the need for a network of Yamaha piano dealers to warehouse thousands of Pianosoft (piano software) titles by centralizing distribution.
SolutionWe built a B2B website that allows yamaha dealer customers to choose selections from an in-store kiosk. The dealer then downloads the software and label with song/artist/track titles from the backend website for the user upon purchase in a matter of minutes. In addition to this, we also provided several reporting tools that allow Yamaha to automatically invoice dealers on a monthly basis, analyze how many musical selections are being sold, and see which tracks are selling.
ResultsThe results were extraordinary. Our solution eliminated the need of warehousing, cut back on dealer costs, increased overall Pianosoft revenue, and gave customers more flexibility in choosing Pianosoft selections. After the succesfull launch of Pianosoft.com, Yamaha asked us to redesign DigitalMusicNotebook.com, a new multimedia platform for music tuition and performance.
Pianosoft.com is a complex system, with a 3-tier permissions layer, extensive reporting (for both dealers and yamaha), and user administration. We also built a custom label printing component that allows yamaha to print out labels for the software titles.

Pianosoft.com also contains a B2C component, that allows dealers to maintain a new source of revenue through Pianosoft sales. Because stores no longer have to maintain inventory of bulky diskettes and the newest latest tracks are always available, sales of Pianosoft titles have increased and store overhead has decreased.

We integrated the backend Yamaha section with their existing product inventory database system. Changes made on their system would automatically sync with the website. This eased administration and lowered costs by centralizing how products were managed.
Customers would come to the store and shop for Pianosoft titles they wished to purchase on a kiosk. When they were ready to checkout, a store manager would login, download the software to diskette, and print the corresponding software labels. All transactions are logged and reported to Yamaha corporate, which would login and send out invoices every month to the stores.
